Parks Cottage is on a South facing hill a couple of miles from Presteigne. It sleeps 6 with the possibility of 8. We are pleased to say that the quality of this holiday let is exceptional. It is about 30 minutes from Hay on Wye and Ludlow. The cottage is new.small image for parkes

You enter to a large living area, with kitchen and dining area with a superb view through a large South-facing window over Presteigne, across the Wye to Hay Bluff and the Malvern Hills. Outside is a decked area with table and chairs along with a BBQ sharing the same superb view.

To the left of the entrance hall is a shower and toilet adjoining downstairs Bedroom 3 with a kingsize, which, again, has superb views. As with all the rooms, the bedding and covers are high quality, natural materials. The showers at Parks Cottage benefit from a high pressure water supply.

Between the two main rooms are stairs to two bedrooms and a further bathroom above. The whole of the ground floor is accessible for wheelchair use.

Bedroom 1 has something different with built-in Norwegian style twin beds. Also, in Bedroom 1 are two futon beds. Normally used for seating, they can be available if 8 guests wish to stay.

Bedroom 2 features a Superkingsize that can be split into twin beds.

Everything is to a very high specification and the entire building has been fitted out with meticulous care with great attention to detail. Our inspection, during building, noted that even the batons in the walls were put in with sufficient quality as if they were intended to be visible.

Aside from the drive, all windows look out over fields and countryside in this modern building. Water and light are off grid and insulation is of a very high specification. The emphasis is on natural materials but coupled with modern energy and materials technology.

There has, clearly, been a huge amount of thought put into the creation of this special and lovely cottage. If you want to stay in one of the very best, modern, energy efficient homes built to a standard and not to a budget, this is a must. If you are seeking exceptional quality, this qualifies, again. It is a grand design.

The house is furnished beautifully in carefully chosen colours and a strong emphasis has been put on comfort and relaxation. High quality feather duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels are provided. Oak pegs are thoughtfully provided about the cottage for guests to use and can be seen in some of the pictures. Outside is a small, dedicated garden area including BBQ and access to fully secure bicycle shed built onto the side of the cottage.

In recognition of this eco house, guests are provided with a range cooker and kettle but no electric kettle is available. The usual heating and comforts of life are, of course, provided but high-energy items such as hair dryers and curlers put high demand on the off-grid electric supply. Hair curlers and dryers use as much power as a small lawn mower so these few necessities are regretfully not supplied.

Unfortunately there are no stairgates so children under the age of 5 cannot be accommodated with the exception of babes in arms.

One or two well behaved pet dogs are welcome, if you are staying with your dog there are a few basic rules; do not leave your pet unattended either in the house or the garden, please clean up after your dog in both the garden and the house; please do not allow the dog into the bedrooms or on the furniture. Dogs are charged at £15.00 per pet per week or part thereof. Please note, sadly, only dogs can be accommodated. About Pet Friendly

When choosing dates, please select the duration of your stay on the drop down menu above the calendar, then float and click the pointer over the desired starting date. Your choice should appear below the calendar. A surcharge of £100 applies for 7 or 8 guests or when one or both futons are used for each week or part of a week. Please do not hesitate to ring if there are any questions or uncertainties about booking. Arrival after 4.00pm please and departure by 10.00am.

All bookings carry a booking fee of £35.00 already included in the advertised price, unless it is a repeat booking at the same cottage within three years, then there is no booking fee charge. To benefit from this you will need to ring on 01568 612467 before booking. Why not bookmark or add cottage pages to your favourites?

Reviews

April 2017 "Yes, thank you, I had a wonderful stay at The Parks Cottage. The hosts were very welcoming but unobtrusive given that they live very close by. The accommodation was perfect, of the highest possible standard, and the view magnificent. The directions provided were easily followed and very useful as the house is quite remote (which, by the way, I like and expect in this part of the country!). The entire process of booking and paying for the holiday was straightforward."

March 2017 "We enjoyed our holiday at The Parks Cottage very much indeed, ...... It was a most interesting cottage extremely well furnished and probably one of the best equipped that we have been to, and we have been to many including the National Trust and the Landmark Trust. The owners were most helpful in resolving a problem with the television as it appeared that the aerial had been moved by the recent storm Doris. We visited the cottage on the recommendation of some friends who live close by and who visited it very soon after it became available. We would recommend it to anyone.... "

February 2017 "We had a fabulous time at the Parks Cottage. We could not have wished for a more beautiful house or nicer hosts. I loved the attention to detail, lovely scented soaps, the beautiful smell of the wooden beams and, particularly the magnificent glass front to the sitting room, which looks out onto the Shropshire Hills. We found everything we needed and it was very exciting to live in an Eco house that [feels like] generates its own heat and electricity. We had lots of lovely walks just around the cottage and even in February the wooden terrace was great for the kids to run round before dinner. Thank you Dorothy and Peter for a fabulous holiday!"

December 2016 "We had an wonderful first stay at The Parks Cottage celebrating New Year. It is extremely spacious and accomodated two families of four and two dogs perfectly. The cottage is stylish, well equipped and has amazing views from the lounge window down to the valley. We walked over the fields from the cottage with the children into Presteigne. There are a number of shops in the village including a supermarket and a couple of good pubs that also welcome dogs.

The fact the cottage is Eco friendly makes it even more impressive. Cosy wood burner, powerful showers and very warm underfloor heating. The photos do not do the house justice. We met Dorothy the owner who was more than helpful and greeted us on arrival and showed us around. The owners live very nearby but left us to our own devices. Thank you for sharing your very special cottage with us. We would defintely like to visit again soon."

December 2016 "We really enjoyed staying at The Parks Cottage, it's a beautifully designed comfortable house in a fabulous setting. We found everything well thought through, and good quality. Peter and Dorothy were very welcoming hosts, they even left us with some delicious goodies to find in the fridge."

November 2016 "I would just like to say how much we enjoyed our recent stay in the Parks Cottage.

We were there for a long weekend, but could happily have stayed much longer. The cottage was beautifully appointed, with everything you would need, and in lovely surroundings. The owners were very helpful, and we really appreciated arriving to staples left in the fridge.

I would thoroughly recommend this cottage, and hope to return very soon."

October 2016 "We (three adults) enjoyed our stay thoroughly! The cottage was very clean and comfortable, and was furnished and kitted out to a high standard. The views were excellent and our hosts most obliging. The complementary food was great too: bread, eggs and local bacon with even some extra virgin olive oil for our use (really helpful little extras make a big difference)."...........

September 2016 "Hi, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Parks Cottage. The house is lovely and the location was perfect for us. Please let the owners know, we will return"

September 2016
"We loved our holiday in this fabulous cottage. It was simply stunning - the cottage itself is awesome in its design, spacious, beautifully furnished and appointed, and very clean. It has beautiful views and is tucked away off a quiet road so it is very tranquil. The nearest town Presteigne isn’t very far - easy to nip to in the car for supplies, and big enough to have decent restaurants and other places of interest to holiday makers such as galleries. We would recommend this cottage highly."

August 2016 "We had a lovely stay at Parks Cottage. Peter was there to welcome us and show us round, but then quickly left us to it. The cottage is newly built and has clearly been well thought through. The finish is of a high standard and has a homely feel to it, and then the views across the valley are truly fantastic - the photos don't do it justice! The kitchen had everything you'd need, with plenty of crockery and glasses.

Peter had gone above and beyond leaving some local supplies including bacon, bread and some wine, and it was nice that other things such as olive oil, dishwasher tablets and kitchen roll were provided. The bedrooms are big with comfy beds, again with lovely views. The bedding is of very good quality with feather duvets and pillows. Just something to bear in mind is that some people (like my mother) suffer from allergies exacerbated by feather bedding.

I was intrigued to stay in an off grid property, but the facilities are so good you wouldn't know it was off grid, so I found it a good experience. The location is lovely and quiet, with plenty to explore nearby. In essence, we had a fantastic stay, we'll be recommending Parks Cottage to our friends, and would love to stay again"

August 2016
We had a lovely stay at The Parks Cottage. It's situation is second to none and it is beautifully furnished with lots of charm and character. Its 'Off Grid' status was really interesting and did not concern us in any way. The owners were very welcoming and it would be a pleasure to return (especially with my 'arty' friends)

About The Parks Cottage

Situated about two miles from the centre of Presteigne, on the Shropshire/Powys borders, The Parks Cottage is set on a South facing hillside with far reaching views over many acres of English and Welsh countryside. It is the perfect spot for birdwatching, relaxing or exploring. There are footpaths and routes that are ideal for walking and cycling, whatever your capabilities are.

The Parks Cottage is close to Offa's dyke path (national trail), as well as a host of other treasures for walkers, gardeners, history buffs and those just looking to relax. The house is located on Stonewall Hill, an ancient drover’s route marking the border, as well as being a regional cycling route. Offa's Dyke walking trail is within 2 miles and the visitor centre is in Knighton.

Presteigne (Llanandras in Welsh), is closest, once the county town of Radnorshire and nestles at the heart of the Marches on the border of Wales and England. Surrounded by beautiful, unspoilt countryside, this thriving border town has many unique qualities that make it both a delightful destination and a base from which to explore. Alongside the river Lugg, at the corner of the three counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Powys, it is within a short drive from Hay on Wye, Hereford, Ludlow and Shrewsbury. It is home to the award-winning small museum, The Judges Lodging, as well as an international classical music festival in August, and many other interesting shops and cafes.

This area has miles of bridleways, away from any main roads, and so is wonderful horse riding country. The nearby town of Presteigne to the South has several excellent pubs. Great pubs within ten minutes drive The Radnorshire Arms, The Dukes Arms and The Farmers Inn. There are several other places a short drive away Clun. Bucknell, Ludlow, all with historic interest.

Presteigne has a farmers' and craft market on the first Saturday of each month and a flea market on the third Saturday of each month. There is a classical music festival at the end of August each year. The Royal Welsh Show is in July and a Vintage car rally is in October. The Judges Lodgings Museum is worth a visit in the centre of Presteigne.

To the west are the Elan Valley Dams and to the North is the Offa's Dyke Visitors Centre at Knighton.
