A Special Cottage with a Kitchen Garden in a Picturesque Setting

(Please note. If you are looking for a mid week break please ring. Sometimes, dates can be made available in mid and low season periods from early November to late March excluding the last 2 weeks of December).

This private and special cottage has a carefully laid out pleasing kitchen garden just by the main entrance. The peaceful area offers everything for a romantic couples stay in a picturesque hideaway.

The Coachmans Cottage is on one side of a large courtyard with the main house being on the other and has its own private entrance way.

There is a hallway to the main entrance, with ample space to hang coats. Nearby is a washing machine and tumble dryer and a staircase to the main living area. An ample and comfortable lounge is combined with a cooking and dining facilities. Equipment includes an oven, hob, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. There is a wood burner, sofa, armchair and TV with a DVD and CD player. The bathroom has a bath with a overhead shower and a heated towel rail and the bedroom has king-sized bed with a combination duvet and an electric blanket for those colder nights.

A perfect place to watch sunsets with a glass of something is the table and chairs placed on the terraced area outside the cottage. The kitchen garden is a real joy and lovingly cared for, peace and tranquility is what Coachman's is all about and you certainly get that in abundance.

Coachman's Cottage is a fantastic Writers retreat and has been used as such in the past, the stunning scenery and the Black Hill cannot fail to inspire any writer. The local area features in Bruce Chatwin's 'On the Black Hill'. Coachman's is certainly a home from home and with a warm welcome this will be a holiday you will long remember.

As Coachman's is quite remote a car is a necessity to get to the shops and pubs, however if you are keen on walking you can park up and walk everywhere from here, superb gentle strolls or long hikes this has something for everyone.

If you are staying with yourdog there are a few basic rules; do not leave your pet unattended either in the let or the garden, please clean up any mess either in the garden or woodland and please do not allow dogs on furniture or beds. The Area Around Coachman's Cottage

South Shropshire is a special area that has yet to be discovered by popular tourism. Over the years the countryside in this area and the villages and settlements have remained relatively unchanged. Great walks are a major feature of this area and there are many that can be taken directly from the Coachman's Cottage leaving the car behind.

Further afield are Offa's Dyke, the Shropshire Way , the Jack Mytton Way , the Kerry Ridgeway and the Long Mynd. Cycle Hire is available locally and there are interesting Cycle Routes in the area. Storage is available at the cottage, if you hire bikes or bring them with you. Historical sites worth visiting are in Clun, Ludlow Castle , Stokesay Castle and Powys Castle . The NGS have lots of open gardens in this area including those at Powys Castle and Hergest Croft.

The holiday let is in a good location to explore South Shropshire, Herefordshire and Wales. There are several market towns, all with historic interest: Shrewsbury , Ludlow, Leominster and Hereford. There is a photo gallery for Hay on Wye. Other towns of interest are Clun and Bishop’s Castle with its local Brewery The Three Tuns, perfect for Real Ale lovers.

The towns of Clun , Bishop's Castle and Ludlow all have a selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes. Visit our Events Calendar, Attractions, Things to do for free and Where to Eat pages for more ideas.

April 2017 "We had a delightful week at Coachmans Cottage. We have rented cottages in Shropshire many times over the years and we both agree that this was the best of many very satisfying stays - both in terms of location, comfort and the kind welcome we received from the owners. The surroundings were especially agreeable: great walks from the front door and a remarkably good choice of nearby places to eat. We hope very much to return, and we will be recommending a stay at the cottage to our friends!"

March 2017 "My wife and I had an excellent holiday at Coachmans Cottage. The cottage is very comfortable, the owner extremely helpful and welcoming, the location exceptional. We hope to go again at some point to see a different seasonal view......."

September 2016 "We both enjoyed greatly our stay at Coachman's cottage, very well equipped and maintained and in a lovely location. At 6' 3'' tall I found the Bathroom slightly difficult but this did nothing to detract from our enjoyment of the stay. As we spent the week exploring the Marches Clunton proved a very convenient base."

August 2016 "We had a fabulous time at Coachmans Cottage. Everything about the cottage and its surroundings were amazing. The cottage is equipped and decorated to the highest standard and we couldn’t find fault at all.

Suzanne was there to greet us when we arrived; more than three hours later than planned, thanks to traffic congestion and roadworks! What a fantastic place to spend a holiday. The weather was very kind to us and we were able to sit on the patio every evening to eat our meals, listening to the swallows in the barn and later, as darkness fell, the owls.

Anyone who wants a holiday away from it all couldn’t do any better than Coachmans Cottage. We cannot recommend it highly enough."

April 2016 "We had a lovely time , the facilities are excellent and the location is stunning , our hosts could not do enough to make our stay as pleasant as possible we look forward in the future to visit again."

April 2016 "We loved the cottage; it had everything we needed and we were very impressed by the extensive library of walks and the collection of walking magazines - so useful to browse through. The location was superb; we relished the peace and quiet....... We would love to return"

November 2015 "Very enjoyable stay. Lovely accomodation in a fabulous setting."

October 2015 "It was a beautiful cottage in splendid surroundings and the owners could not have been more welcoming, a really relaxing break."

August 2015 "We had a very enjoyable stay at Coachman’s cottage which we both agreed was the nicest one we have ever rented. The owner was very welcoming and allowed us to walk around her wonderful garden, everything in the cottage worked well and the bed was extremely comfortable. They said it was a long way out and it certainly was, but that meant it was very quiet and relaxing with lots of parking.

We would certainly go again."

April 2015 "Hi, Country Holiday Lets, just a line to let you know that the Coachman's Cottage.... was lovely, also central for lots of outings in the surrounding countryside, towns and villages. (17th to 24th April, 2015.) Thank you."

Feb 2015 "Coachman's Cottage was a pleasant holiday in a beautiful quiet location. It was reasonably well equipped and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. This is lovely walking country with walks direct from the door. A place I would definitely recommend to other couples."

June 2012 "We had a fabulous time at coachmans cottage the proprty was excellant. The hosts were very welcoming....."

June 2012 "Coachman's Cottage (CC) was everything we expected from the internet description. Standards were very high and our Hosts were charming and very helpful. The location fitted our expectations perfectly; as walkers we were confronted with an excellent choice of possible walks. The location being so near to Clun offered the perfect base but with so many other locations close to hand we had everything we wanted.

The road leading to CC from Craven Arms was very basic but once navigated once all surprises diminished. We enjoyed the area very much and suspect like many others its beauty was latent and would prompt numerous returns. ( It was a pity we didn't have control over the weather!!). In assessing the whole we gave it ten out of ten But the owner gets eleven out of ten for all her hard work and willingness on every occasion to help.
Thanks for all your cooperation, we look forward to using you again."

April 2012 "...perfect in everyway will be returning"

April 2012 "..We had a thoroughly enjoyable few days and found the cottage extremely comfortable and very well equipped. It is secluded and peaceful, in a superb location - extremely quiet and tucked out of the way, yet within easy reach of a wide range of interesting towns and villages. The walking, too, is superb. I would not hesitate to return."

July 2011 "We had an excellent holiday at Coachman's Cottage which was helped by very good weather. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable and the owners were friendly, helpful but not intrusive."

June 2011 "We enjoyed our stay in Coachman's Cottage very much. It was so peaceful and the cottage was very well equipped and I cannot think of anything else we needed. It felt very home from home. No complaints at all. Shropshire is a very beautiful County and Clun is an excellent area for walking. Thank you very much and we hope to visit the area again"

June 2011 "my husband and I had a wonderful holiday. The cottage was superb and in a stunning location, so peaceful and relaxing, just what we needed to unwind. The owners were warm welcoming and helpful and we would definitely love to stay there again. We have had many cottage holidays over the years , but we both agreed this was the best we had stayed at. Thank you for all your help"

April 2011 "It was fabulous, fabulous and more fabulous. Incredibly well equipped, very tasteful and spectacular location. Would heartily recommend."

April 2011 "we had a very nice holiday, the cottage was perfect and so was the location."

March 2011 "I had a brilliant time at the Coachman's Cottage, it was so comfortable, clean, warm, well furnished and with an excellent shower (one of my key criteria!!). I've had a couple of "bad" cottages recently so it was good to get a cottage that was perfect for my holiday. The owners (and their dogs!) are charming, helpful and very welcoming including the bottle of wine and daffodils, the setting was so peaceful with lovely views and weather to match. I would recommend the cottage to anyone and would definitely like to go back. I also really liked all the maps, walking books and general information on Shropshire that were in the cottage, so helpful when new to the area. I can't think of anything that needs to be improved or changed and the service I received from your company was excellent as well."

March 2011 "The cottage was very nice, in a beautiful location which was easy to access and find. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the cottage itself was lovely with everything you could need supplied and more! Had a very enjoyable time"

Oct 2010 "we absolutely loved it - definitely exceeded expectations! Beautiful & comfortable cottage,'wonderfully equipped (Inc local maps) in a gorgeous tucked away location, and v welcoming landlords! Thanks"

Oct 2010 "I don't usually respond to these things (because I'm an old grump, I suppose) but the holiday at Coachman's Cottage was so good that I feel compelled to write .....The accommodation was really excellent, and very good value for money. The location was stunning, and we had a wonderfully relaxing week. I will almost certainly book the same accommodation for a peaceful break next year.

Sept 2010 "The cottage was fantastic, so well presented and so very comfortable. The time seemed to stand still, due entirely to the relaxing atmosphere of both the cottage and surrounding countryside. An inspirational kitchen garden to look at and enjoy - everything was an absolute delight. Our first break for many years but one we shall repeat thanks to finding you on-line. All being well we shall be in touch in early 2011 to sample one of your other cottages such is your high standard."

Sept 2010 "We were extremely impressed with the cottage and the whole area. The standard of decoration, furnishing and cleanliness at the cottage was excellent, and the owners were very friendly and helpful. The wine left in the fridge for us was excellent quality - and has now become a regular in our shopping trolley!
The picked flowers from the garden was a lovely touch, and we would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to our friends."

Sept 2010 "It was great! Loved the cottage and everything was as it should be"
